I separated from the Navy in 2015, but didn't claim any issues when I separated because I was considering going into the reserves.

In 2017 I attempted to claim disability due to various issues and got rated at 0% (tinitus, low back pain, etc.).

However, I've been seeing the VA over the past ~2 years due to severe Sciatica (ER visits, physical therapy, accupuncture).

I am separated from active duty now and wondering if it is better to see a private psychiatrist for an initial assessment to submit a VA claim or can the VA clinic complete one to help me get evidence to support my claim? I want the best chance at it as I have been denied before with having no evidence so I am currently seeking a private evaluation but it is pretty expensive.

I was denied secondary service connections on a few musculoskeletal disabilities. My physician won't write a nexus letter. Are there any viable alternatives for nexus letters?

Example: Individual retires after 20 years of active duty. Then works an additional 20 years as a Federal employee under FERS. Never attempts to “buy back” their active duty time and prefers to draw both their military pension and their FERs pension (when they are eligible).

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea, however, I received a secondary diagnosis from the sleep study for anxiety, depression, nocturia, hypersomnia, and parasomnia. Should I file a claim VA claim for the secondary diagnosis as well?
