Ghosts at Fort Benning?
Posted on
Not my story, but asking for my younger brother, who is an army medic currently stationed at Fort Benning, GA. (Also, I'm very much out of the loop in both paranormal and military terms, so my deepest apologies if any terms I use are inaccurate)
My brother, who I'll call John (18M) for the sake of this post, called me (20M) yesterday in a panic while I was working to tell me that he saw a ghost on...

Has your boss ever asked you to do something, and he doesn't really know what it is he's asking you to do? Giddyup.
TLDR at the bottom.
I'm at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan, doing Information Operations (IO) at Division Headquarters. I've been in IO for a while at this point so it's just another lap around the track. As soon as I get into the Operations Center one morning, my boss, LTC Jerry,...

Tales from JAG: How not to file a claim

This post on r/army (and some of its comments) reminded me of some of the more creative claims I've seen over the past couple decades. I haven't posted here for a bit, so here we go.
After some laptops went missing from brigade, the command decided to do a 100% contraband sweep of the barracks and the parking lot. They decided to bring out drug and bomb dogs, for some...

In boot camp on Parris Island, there was a special event that took place during our late training. Not the gas chamber where your face actually melts a little, nor the Crucible, or the "Oops, all war" mind games where they herd you into a classroom and announce that the country is officially at war with [insert current tyrannical villainous country] and you're all going to go.
We recruits, all...
The raid was strategic. The intel was supposedly useful. That doesn't bring anyone back, but people do what they can.

Today is ANZAC Day in Australia, and I can't stop thinking about a man who wasn't one.
This story must be told by one of his siblings' grandchildren (which I am) not his own for reasons that will be very obvious.
I can't use any names at all, because it feels wrong to lie and these events were specific enough that any detail might narrow it down too much. As it is, any member of my family who...
The crap we got up to at Basic

No s*&^ there I was, final field training exercise (FTX) of Basic. My battle buddy and I get the first foxhole right by the road and for the whole time we're in the field, we are the ECP (entry control point) for our company area. Not so horrible, since we cover it all day (except when we go off on sticks lanes) we aren't in the nightly rotation. Here's a few of the shenanigans we got up to while...
Good Times, singing with the Troops

I was reading a story the other day when this story popped in my head. I was going to the field, or a range, either way, in the back of a deuce and a half. There were 15 or so of us back there, E5 and below. The ride was going to take a while, as it was five to ten miles or so getting to our location. We were bored, as the hurry up and wait had kicked in and we just wanted to get to where we are...
Sleeping in the Field: A Tier List or An Officer Occasionally Was Inconvenienced Whilst Catching His Beauty Rest, But Only a Few Times

Caveats: Never went to war, never did a combat deployment, tried to go to Afghanistan a few times, Army kept saying no. I led an overall mediocre career, and have regrets about the things I did or didn’t do in the Army. Also, Officer Humor is way worse than Enlisted Humor. The “No Punching Down” rule of comedy was missed by a lot of my peers. But there will be an attempt here.
I was an Armor...
Gone but not forgotten. A short tail of something that caught me by surprise.

Brief history. I’m former army and served six years between active and reserves. I ETS’d close to 20 years ago.
On a recent weekend with a lady friend in Florida, late one night somewhere around eight or 9 PM, I distinctly heard taps playing. Out of force of habit, I snapped to the position of attention and saluted through the end of the bugle call.
My lady friend is a foreign national, and...
