Survivors Guilt, but Not in the Usual Way

Authors Note: This story will contain feelings/talk about suicide and death. I am still currently serving in the USAF. I understand that compared to the other forces, much of what I talk about will seem pale in comparison because “Chair Force” but I feel it’s still valid. What follows is the feelings and thoughts at that time and current. I tried to condense as much as I could, but there is so...
Newly married to a military man (question)
Posted on
So I have a 2 year old son. And last week I got married to my Navy husband.
I am currently on a custody battle with the father of my son. But the court doesn’t know yet that I am married and with someone in the military. (And yes I’ll speak with my lawyer I’m just panicking a little bit right now and want opinions)
Its an 80 mile drive to and from where my husband is stationed to my ex’s house.

So back in the days of high school (8th grade - out of 9 total), i was probably around 15 or so.
We had to find a company and work as an intern for a week (we do this i think in 7th and 8th grade)
Naturally, with both my parents being prior army, and national guard, and with my liking for the army, i chose.... drum roll...

As mentioned in my previous post, I worked as part of a force protection team during Cobra Gold 2013 in Thailand. What that means in simple terms is that we were the liaison between local officials and the US military units participating in the exercise. We were the first point of contact for the Thai police if any US service member did something dumb in town. Consequently, we had a local...

I was putting on my snowshoes to go hunting Willow Ptarmigan yesterday when it dawned on me; I learned to snowshoe in the Army. I’ve learned a lot of esoteric skills in the Army, some even beyond what you’d assume your normal Soldier would learn. I’ve had classes on road grading and culvert construction. I’ve visited power plants, water treatment plants, commercial farms, airports and rail hubs. I...

POWs and mercy.

Something that will go in the book ultimately, in whole or in part. Enjoy.
The only interaction I had with POW's was pointing my rifle at them.
Before we moved past As Salam, we started finding random groups of guys ranging from squad size to platoon size, just sitting on the side of the road after throwing their weapons away in the desert. They were waiting to be collected by someone, because the...

How the Army Changed My Life

Note: All names have been changed for PERSEC.
I was sitting at the computer in the corner, my usual spot because of the solitude it afforded me, when my platoon sergeant, SSG Jones approached me. It was a standard early June afternoon in the office with me among the few soldiers actually working on reports while the more frat-boy-minded guys sat around talking about drinking in Waikiki and whether...
