New to the 100 P&T Club, had some questions that I haven’t found straight answers too
Posted on
In the past 8 years I’ve worked my way up to 100 P&T which has changed everything for us. By us, I mean myself and my partner of the past 10 years. We’ve been unmarried all this time due to waiting for us to get our careers and education straightened out first…but as you can imagine, having enough disabilities to warrant 100 P&T has made me take quite some time to do that. She’s graduated from Master’s school and has been working for a few years while I am still struggling to finish my bachelor’s.
Now that I am 100 P&T, it’d be stupid to not use all the benefits. So we’re gonna pull the trigger and get married soon. Courthouse style.
1) If she were to get on ChampVA, is that considered a primary health insurance? She wants to go back for her doctorate but won’t unless she has healthcare covered.
2) Is she able to use the DEA (DEPENDENTS’ EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE) CH 35 even though we weren’t married before/during the effective date? Or does she just gain that benefit once we marry and register her with DEERs?
2a) Will Ch. 35 provide that monthly stipend for any education? Including a doctorate?
3) Can spouses use Space A travel? Anyone ever actually use this service? <- I am just curious about this one
4) For the student loan forgiveness, are those just loans that occurred before the effective date? Or can I finish school and then apply for it. I’ve far exhausted my GI Bill
Thanks guys
