Where were you on September 5th, 2006?
17 years ago, September 5th, 2006, I got on a plane to Atlanta to join the Infantry during the surge. I met the first drill sergeants of my life at the clock tower in the airport, as tens of thousands have done since then. Around this time, 1 am, I rode the bus to Fort Benning, got off at 30th AG on sand hill, and was getting the brief about how to stand at...
SSG with 7 years TIS thinking about getting out

Hello all,
I’ll be hitting my 7 years next month, I joined at 19 years old. I volunteered for recruiting and I’m going to my HOR. I’ll be living with my parents for the next 3 1/2 years along with my son (single parent). After this contract is over, I’ll be over 10 years TIS.
I think I’m done after this contract and I’m happy ending it with recruiting at home. If I enjoy recruiting, I’ll end up...
How does one solve this dilemma in an Army setting, particularly in a unit where the culture is to drown in work, and make that the standard for everyone else?

Some tips for new officers

Ok, so I started this as a quick reply with some simple advice to a new LT on a seperate thread and it turned into a small essay. These are just some pointers I've come up with during my 12 years in the Army (3 years enlisted / 9 years commissioned). Hope something in these ramblings helps someone just starting out their career. Please feel free to add everything I missed.
One of the most...
SDNCO doing sketch shit

I've got a buddy going through medboard who's on staff duty right now. He has a profile stating he needs sleep. Usually, the NCOIC will let him go home, take his meds, and go to sleep and have him come back before changeover.
SDNCO has instructed the guy to go grab his meds, take them in the parking lot, sleep in the car and expects him to be able to function enough to work and drive despite...
If spouse marries again does she still get a portion of the retirement/ pension at 10 years?

I’ve asked my lawyer this 3 times and still don’t have an answer. So any actual experience with this would help.
Edit: If she marries another soldier?

When did the Army start requiring officers to have a college degree?

I can’t find a legitimate source for this answer anywhere. I’m currently at BLC and want to include this info in my public speaking brief.
I’ll take one of everything on the menu, but double up on the cheesy gordita crunch. And a Diet Pepsi.

Breaking lease while deployed

Wife doesn’t feel safe living where we currently live and I’m well into a deployment. Can she use my POA and orders to break the lease even after I’ve left or will we have to pay all the extra fees? I can’t find anything about it online.
I’ll take a dozen Popeyes biscuits to throw at the asshats breaking into cars and apartments in my neighborhood.

“We don’t want to be that hard” What my guys told me:

I see a lot of post on here regarding the desire to have access to more complex, professional, sophisticated physical fitness training plans.
99% of the time I agree, and I have always strived to bring that to the table when it comes to training options for my team and to my guys.
I believe it’s my responsibility to provide the resources either mental, physical or intangible, such as rest days and...
