Besides in following a medical profile, are running shoes ever authorized for wear with the Army Combat Uniform (ACU)?

See title. I am seeking some advice about regulation based on my situation.
Long and short of it:
I am trying to train cardio at my workplace, which has a gym inside the building. I use my lunch break to work out, which is usually strength training in my ACU. I was going to train cardio on the treadmills, but they don't allow combat boots on the machines. Due to my limited break time, I don't have much time for changing in and out of uniform, along with other factors. If I just slip on some running shoes while in my ACU, is that authorized or unauthorized by any regulation. I've checked AR 670-1 and DA PAM 670-1, but I don't see any guidance in either besides that the ACU is comprised of Combat Boots.
I just want to be able to take my lunch, get to the gym, take off my boots, put on some running shoes for cardio, use my remaining time for core exercises, take off my shoes, put back on my boots, and immediately resume work. That's already too many steps, in my cardio-starved opinion.
