My great-grandfather, Alexander Houck Mosier, served in WWI with the 79th Division during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, which took place from September 26, 1918, to November 11th, 1918. This is his story.
I have in my possession the transcription of a diary he wrote while deployed. A major help in writing this story is the book History of the Seventy-Ninth Division A.E.F. during the World War:...

I just got home from the swedish tryouts for the military. Idk what's the english word for it but I've had this dream of being enrolled into a special elite force here in sweden and I have been training for a really long time and have been thinking about this very long. It is very physically demanding since you have to walk for long periods of time with heavy backpacks. I told myself that if I...

Back in Basic, in a little place called Relaxin Jackson, tensions were running high in the second week of Red Phase. Growing up in a military family, I was familiar with the fuck-fuck games, and knew just to keep my head down and keep moving. No problems with anyone.
One night, after toe the line but before lights out, a fight broke out between two females. I rested yelling "Catfight!", watched...

Short story from South Lebanon, late nineties, where I was a PFC in NORBATT (Norwegian battalion), UNIFIL (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon). As a regular infantryman, I took part in check point duty, OP tower duty, and patrols. And on night patrols, we often brought one handler with a K-9, and we were glad to have them. I'm sure you all know that these trained dogs are not for petting, and...

In 2007-2008 I was deployed to Balad Airfield, for those who were deployed to Iraq you probably thought of it as a vacation spot from most of the other bases. The base would always get indirect fire every day, but they had the worst aim. My job at the base was to watch what they called the RAID camera which would look out 4000 feet in 4 cameras facing North, South, East and West. My job was to...

Positive military leader, examples

I am writing a book about the military culture and would love to include some positive examples of military leaders who made a difference. There is a lot of examples of toxic leadership, but if you have an example of a positive figure in your life, I’d love to share it in a published book! Looking for 1-2 paragraphs

It was a blazing hot day.
We were having intensive field exercises in the woodlands. Needless to say, we sweated like pigs and our uniforms were completely soaked as if we had just emerged from water. It was exhausting and hard work.
I had cotton mouth and felt like I could drink an entire ocean. Sensing that the exercises were nearing to an end, I did not drink any of my water and used it as a...

This is back in 2013. My TF, TFDragon, was in Afghanistan, Paktya and Paktika provinces on interdiction missions, with a platoon of 10th mountain as support, and a ranger QRF in the AO. Any and all decent intel about possible Taliban or Al Qaeda even haquanni network movement, we were there, sometimes waiting, sometimes not, but heavy ops the whole time.
In about June, we got a different mission,...
