Would this be Combat or Non-Combat PTSD?
Posted on
Hello,
I'm going to describe an event that happened to me in Riyadh Saudi Arabia in 1993. After talking to a neurologist about a sleep disorder I have, he asked if I ever considered I had PTSD. I hadn't considered it a possibility until then. When filing for a PTSD claim would this be combat or non-combat PTSD?
I am waiting for my military records from the National Archives. I can't find any reference to this event on the internet. We were interviewed by Air Force OSI the next day, so I know there is a record.
I was in the Air Force, 965th AWACS unit, on a tour of duty in Riyadh Saudi Arabia, between July and September of 1993. I was staying in Eskan Village. I and a group of 5 other people drove into town to do some shopping. We were all arrested and detained by the Muttawa(religious police). There was a female lieutenant in the car and things didn't go well.
We were there to protect Saudi Arabia, so the people arresting us were not the enemy(officially). We were not sure if these people were police officers or terrorists.
If this is combat PTSD how should I go about filing a claim? I don't have a VA rating or diagnosis. Should I see a civilian doctor and get a nexus letter or see a VA doctor? Should I just put in claim and let the C&P examiner diagnose me?
Thank you,
