Will getting diagnosed with autism affect my disability?
Posted on
I am currently rated for bipolar disorder that was brought out and significantly worsened by the military environment and prescribed opioids. Lately, my civilian therapist has brought up the possibility that I might have Autism. My bipolar has recently stabilized through meds and therapy. However, I continue to have significant social problems. I want to know whether it might be Autism but I don't want to risk getting diagnosed then the VA contributing all my problems to the diagnoses instead of my service connected. I can't afford the insanely expensive meds or therapy on my own.
What should I do? Would it be bad to see a civilian doctor about it and keep the records separate from the VA?
