Should I even file for disability?
Posted on
Hi all, I was in back in 2007-2012 and the guard till 2015. When I got in I was a very impressionable 17 year old. One thing in particular that stuck to me was what my drill sergeant and early chain of command would say “sick call is for p***ies, suck it up and drive on” so I did. Never went to sick call no matter how much things hurt. Even in my civilian experience up to a few years ago I never went to the hospital. Goes the same for my mental health, I still have dreams and disturbances from my experiences in Afghanistan but I was worried back then that I would be labeled crazy and would be unable to get a job.
I developed a slew of issues in the Army from plantar fasciitis which i specifically remember the pain from rucking to anxiety and PTSD. Given that I don’t have any medical history of this due to basically being scared of looking weak, should I even attempt to file for disability?
