I had a VERA call about the status of my BDD claim because I separate next week and my claim is sitting at preparation for decision. The rep said that they are waiting for my DD214 but I submitted it when I started terminal leave. When I told her this she claimed that they can’t take a copy signed before separation. I questioned her statement and she started rambling about how they have to verify that you really separated on the date of the DD214 and, although she didn’t know how the VA might be able verify the separation. I can’t be the first person leaving the Army that got their DD214 when they started terminal leave - but the VA seems confused by this.
