Treat single soldiers like human beings
Posted on
I used to have a sergeant major (Teranes type). During this time he paralleled the “this is my squad” with a “this is my home” initiative for us barracks dwellers. He wanted us to make these rooms our homes. My first thought was “how can this place be my home if I can’t even control the climate” How many officers have to deal with some civilian cohort controlling the climate? How about senior enlisted? Why isn’t the temperature left to the soldier? I can call the emergency line, they will say “that’s not an emergency, submit a work order on the app” so I guess I can wait a couple days. If this was really my home, I could control the temperature. Just because I’m in New York doesn’t mean it doesn’t get cold for a day and then right back into the high 80’s. Just got back on base from a really great weekend and I’m sitting here sweating. I feel so bad for all soldiers the south.
