Need an accuracy check before I call BS on this
Posted on
I am reading a memoir by a woman who says she broke her leg very badly as a child in another country. She says the break was so bad and the subsequent setting bad as well that it had to be rebroken at a later date and reset which led to her having a limp. Ok fine.
Here's what I'm struggling with: 1. She says she finished college and joined the Army in 2009. I enlisted many years prior to that, in another branch, and that break and that limp would have disqualified her. Could she actually have gotten into the Army in 2009 with that? 2. She sounds like she's going the officer route but then she describes herself as being at "basic training" at Ft. Jackson. Ig Army officers go before going to OTC? I need clarification. Also, I thought only Big Blue called it basic training. I have only heard Army people say boot camp? Maybe I'm nitpicking... 3. She then goes on to describe her rank as a "specialist, which meant she had a college degree and years on other trainees". That's not my understand of that rank, but maybe I know less than I thought?
I would like to keep reading this book but now I have too many doubts. I will pause until some of you Army folks can tell me if this sounds like complete and utter bullshit or it is plausible and I can put my doubts to rest.
