Duty stations with the least miserable field environment?
Posted on
I have experience going to the field both at Bliss and Campbell.
Campbell training areas suck. As a native Texas boy, Kentucky summers are the worst I've ever experienced. Blasted heat. Humidity cranked up to the Jurassic era. Thousands of bugs that will eat you up. Getting yelled at by your team leader to keep up even though you're negotiating a fallen tree obstacle that's too difficult to simply walk around under NODs. Thorny vegetation that's worse than c-wire. Oh yeah and the bipolar weather where the rain will piss on your already sweat soaked uniform.
Now some might say Bliss sucks, but I find the desert to be a much simpler environment. Yes it's hot. We all know it's gonna be hot and sandy. But at least it's a dry heat. Wear a boonie, eyepro, keep that canteen filled and you will be fine. Flat wide open dessert terrain is easier to maneuver through and lume at night is better.
What duty stations have you experienced that seem like the field environment is the shittiest? What locations seemed decent?
I'll have the honey barbecue chicken strip sandwich and medium sprite, no ice.
