Cons of switching to the Marines
Posted on
Reservist sergeant here looking to commission into active duty. The army has been pretty good to me but left me with some disappointment. Either way due to my general like of the military so far and the abysmal job market my mind is pretty determined to go the active route. I feel like I understand what the army could do for me as an officer and possible career paths I could pursue and I’m not against commissioning into it. My main dream is to go combat arms and eventually become an FAO. CA/Psyops also really interest me.
That being said out of curiosity I took a meeting with a marine oso with week and was pretty impressed. The pros I identified with switching to the marines were: 1. Seems like the corps has more high motivated individuals and less people just coasting/people who don’t want to be there. 2. A lot more opportunities for foreign duty assignments and better conus assignments. I don’t want to end up posted in the middle of nowhere like a fort Polk or Wainwright.
Now I know recruiters are there to make the gig look good and I know there are a lot more marines in the army than vice versa. That being said I’m struggling to think of the cons, anybody have any advice? What would I be missing out on by trying to leave the army or what would I unknowingly be getting myself into by going marines? Or should I send it? I’ve got another meeting with them next week.
