Commander asks "What are you going to do for me?"

So, this has occurred more than once apparently. Soldier wants to become a pilot, passes flight physical, gains approval of a CW5, passes all prerequisites, but when he goes to talk to the commander, that's the roadblock. The commander asks the soldier "Well, what are you going to do for me?" I told my guys just shut the door, put on some music and start stripping cause I can think of othing else! You need to do something personal for the commander to become a pilot? What kind of shit is this? Lol does anyone know the right answer to this question? Cause both the soldiers and the NCOs are wondering if the CO wanted some of mid 30s slightly chubby SPC or if he meant make him a coffee or something lol.
