Any vets here interested in getting into a tech related career?
Posted on
I know there’s some vets here in this sub, so just thought I’d post this for those who don’t know about the program.
I didn’t find out about this program until early last month and I have mentioned this program to so many vets and people currently serving and NOT 1 had any idea this program was a thing, so please if you are a vet and looking to get into the tech industry, please read!!
Vet Tec is a VA pilot program for any veteran who is not on active duty and has at least 1 day (not a typo) of their GI bill remaining. The program lets you take a course for anything from data analyst, cyber security, software development, etc. for FREE. The Va pays for the course and on top of that you get paid BAH rate of E5 with dependents each month you attend the course. Also, if you graduate from the course the learning center or “school” will help you try to get a job with a tech company working 3 months. The VA won’t pay these schools the full tuition if the veteran doesn’t find meaningful employment in the field they studied in their course, so these schools will definitely do what they can to get you a job because they definitely want their money.
Link will be at the bottom to apply, if you apply and are granted the COE all you have to do is bring that COE to one of the listed tech schools and they will get you set up with the vet tec program.
This is a GREAT opportunity for any vet SERIOUSLY looking to start a career in the tech industry. I say seriously because if you do this for a couple months and decide it’s not for you and just stop the course you will most likely have to pay back the BAH and the tuition cost. So you really should do your research and think if this something you will actually stick with.
I think the program started in 2019-2020? And it’s a 5 year pilot program for the VA to see how many veterans are actually interested in getting tech related jobs, so apply soon if interested!
The website says it can take 2-4 weeks to hear back about whether or not you are accepted after applying, but I heard back in 4 days….so try not to stress about how long it might take to hear back!
Also, if anyone is interested in this program and lives in Washington state I highly recommend you try to go to the learning center in Bellevue!
If anybody has any questions don’t hesitate to ask!
