The worst decision I ever made during my time in the military
Posted on
Since I’m a Finnish male I did my military service as most other males did and I was also assigned to spend the year there as an NCO. But that of course came with a lot of perks during the later part of year.
This story takes place after our last leave, we had been told that the morning after our last leave we would be going to the firing range because the never guys where supposed to do some firing skill test, but we never had to shoot. That gave a lot of us NCOs an idea, we saw that one train that went to the brigade had problems and wouldn’t be running on time. So we all called the brigade and where told it was okay that we arrived later. We where of course not really going with this train but we knew no one would check. So we spent a couple hours drinking in the town next to the brigade. I don’t remember much but one guy told us that we had arrived at 2-3am and I had woken up most guys that slept in the same room as me.
The next morning at 5:30 when I woke up it felt like my head was going to explode from any noice and I was sure it couldn’t get any worse that this. But of course it did. At the firing range we had time over and the new guys needed more practice with the KVKK lmg. So for almost two hours we had to sit and watch them shoot the lmg while we all wanted to die.
I’m sure that all of the professionals either smelled the alcohol on our breath or found out what we had done last night, so they told us that we would have a competition between squad to evacuate a guy the 5-6 kms back to the brigade. Those kms where the worst I have ever ran in my entire life. Out of the NCOs that went out drinking last night 4 threw up during the exercise and when we came back the sergeant that had ordered this was just smiling at us and asked every NCOs if he had a headache and how many times we threw up. He 100% knew what we did but probably thought that this was enough punishment for us.
But after this we only had around 15-20 days left so it wasn’t that bad.
