A British girl in war torn Somalia
Posted on
I'm in the British forces and was deployed to Somalia. During our deployment, we were tasked to rescue British nationals caught in the crossfire of rebel groups.
In the midst of a treacherous conflict zone, our mission was clear: to evacuate a group of British nationals trapped in a rebel-held area and ensure their safe passage to the British Embassy. Among them was a captivating woman who was...

Someone at r/MaliciousCompliance told me you guys might like this as well. Chief sergeant major and quartermaster sergeant are OR-7 ranks, the rest should be self-explanatory.
Just a really small malicious compliance that had the intended effect.
So this goes back roughly a decade when I was in the swiss army. Some of my duties as chief sergeant major were the management of the whole material. We...

Fort Benning, bunch-o-decades ago, Basic Training. A little background: one of the fellow E-nothings in our platoon received a bonafide neo-nazi newspaper during mail call. Guys wearing gray uniforms, stiff arms salutes, the whole kit and caboodle. Not in an envelope, just mailed to him plain by one of his friends. That didn't go over well with the drill...
I wasn't a smart soldier.

First time posting, unless i did a drunk one that i forgot about, if so please tell me so i can read it.So we're doing this training thing. We go to the field for only 3 days, back to the barracks for the weekend and then the rest of the month or a couple week or so, we'd be staying in our previously constructed holes in the field. On the first 3 days we were supposed to dig in and just sit there...

Yall know that any one that serves in the military is a vet. (Almost)
I am in the almost categorie. I spent 5 years in the national guard and five in the reserves.
If you never deploy for disasters or what ever or get called to deploy for the federal government you are not a vet.
there is is this funky little law that states you have to have 180 of active service not to include training. Ie basic...
Batman ---- RePost

I've noticed that lately the military stories on this subreddit have mellowed out. Not a bad thing - save the blood and guts for September.
This is a story/meditation I posted on reddit seven years ago. It's about a lot of things, but mostly, it's about coffee. Here we go:

I have a bunch of things I have to write, so naturally when morning coffee reminded me of an unwritten - and almost...
When I Didn't Volunteer For SWAT
Posted on
This is a story from when I first went in and got to my first duty station. I only been there a couple of months. I starting to get into the routine.
Then one afternoon, I work the night shift, a SFC I had never met before who showed up to our guard mount. He announced that there was an inspection coming up and that he was looking for some volunteers to join the SWAT team.
Now, I may not be...
My First Armored Battalion, or how I Pissed of the S3.....

My first supported unit as an Enlisted Terminal Attack Controller (ETAC) was an Army tank battalion. Technically this wasn't my first unit as I had finished my certification while deployed to Bosnia and got a couple months in at Brcko, but it was my first home-station unit.
Usually at our home station we don't have a ton of interaction with our supported units. We're stationed on the same post...
A Recipe for Everyone (Except Some People) to Try or A Present from a Shadowy World, in a Shadowy World

By popular demand, and to avoid the wrath of Atheist Chaplaincy, another story regarding 1SG (E7) Highspeed, my platoon sergeant at one time, who came to us in the "Big Army" from the shadowy world of special forces units with alphabet soup names, and one of his... pleasant surprises.
So, to set the scene, it's mid 2017, about 6 months after my previous story, and my unit, 3rd Battalion, Singapore...
In a diesel submarine, long, long ago...

Now this ain't no shit. There we was, in a diesel electric submarine older than me. Out of San Diego doing weekly ops, giving ping time to the skimmers and airedales. I was battle stations helmsman in the conn, a compartment about the size of a dumpster on top of the main hull, full of people and equipment and periscopes. We were making a drill attack approach on a NSTS cargo ship. They were...
