A Lockheed C-130 Hercules transport plane crashed on takeoff from Montijo Air Base, Portugal. A fire erupted.

According to the Publico news portal, three people were killed and four sustained injuries. There were reportedly seven people on board.

State news agency Lusa said three people were killed in the accident and another person had been injured. SIC television reported the accident happened as the plane burst into flames at take-off.

No one at the defense ministry was immediately available to comment.

The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft designed and built originally by Lockheed, now Lockheed Martin. Capable of using unprepared runways for takeoffs and landings, the C-130 was originally designed as a troop, medevac, and cargo transport aircraft.
