After 42 years in the United States Marine Corps, Assistant Commandant Gen. John "Jay" Paxton Jr. has retired. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter and Commandant Robert Neller spoke highly of Paxton and his service, and presented him with the distinguished service medal, signaling meritorious service in a public position.
