I went down the F-14 rabbit hole and found out when that Grumman developed the Tomcat in the 1970s, it would be for both the Navy and Marine Corps, but somehow the Marines chose not to acquire the Tomcat. Early Tomcats had ground attack switches in its avionics that were inoperable, a leftover from when Grumman hoped that the Marines would buy them

So, why didn’t the Marines acquire the Tomcat?
