I've heard that most people don't join "to serve [their] country" or for patriotism, and that most people will think you're dumb if that's your main reason for joining.

I'm currently enlisting and my main reasons are to get healthier and for the traveling and cool experiences that come with joining the Navy, it also would help serve as a distraction from me not feeling like I have a purpose. I can't handle mundane jobs, so I'm hoping the military (Navy, in my case) will keep me occupied long enough to keep the job.

What about you guys? What is your reason for joining? If it truly is just to serve, share that! I'm interested. :)
