Scared of poverty if i get out
Posted on
My contract ends in November 2024 and im trying to decide if i should stay in. I’m making E-5 soon and everyone says “quality of life gets better” and that nothing beats retiring at 38.
I was born and raised in Mexico in a really poor part of the country and this job has given me the most money I’ve seen in my life. Im scared that i will struggle with money if i get out. Im also incredibly dumb with money. I only have $5k saved up.
I plan to use the GI Bill but i have no idea on what to major in and i dont have any interest in anything.
I’ve been in a bad spot for a couple years and i dont know if i will feel better or worse if i get out. Im not sure if the military is causing my depression or if its just something that will follow me for my entire life.
Also I’ve never seen combat. Im a cook in the US Coast Guard so i know people think we have it super easy and stuff but I’ve been super stressed for years now. I appreciate any advice or wise words from you guys.
