Need help settling a debate
Posted on
I was born in the American sector of Berlin in the early 1980s, in the field hospital. My parents were both in the US Army and were American citizens. I was always told that counted as being a natural born citizen, as the entire sector (or at least the field hospital) was considered American soil.
I've gotten into a debate with folks who are telling me that no, it was still German soil, just occupied. ETA: My citizenship is clear, what's not is the US Soil part.
Who's right? I'm willing to concede defeat if I'm wrong.
ETA2: Thanks, everyone. So the American sector was NOT US soil. Still a US citizen.
This all started because I recounted an incident where someone at a Financial Aid office refused me a work-study job. Her assertion was that because I wasn't born on US soil, my US passport couldn't be real. She was demanding my non-existant green card, visa, and German passport. A supervisor had to be called to clear it up.
I had stated in that telling that I was born on US soil to US parents, and thus the debate over if the American Sector counted began. I was wrong about the US Soil part, and concede defeat there. Thank you all again!
