This guy who was just voted to be Ela Township Assessor in Illinois is claiming to have three purple hearts after serving 1 year in the Marine Corps.

During a public township meeting a member of the public came forward with a FOIA for this guys service records. Turns out this man went to OCS and failed? In 1970. What does this mean?

Most importantly is he liable for stolen valor if true?
