How do i get my unit to take my spinal injury seriously?
Posted on
I'm a reservist in a conscript military and they keep calling me back for reservist training. So of course, i go through the official procedures, submit medical documents, etc. But they still insist on calling me back even though i have repeatedly said that I cannot walk for more than 10-15 mins without experiencing pain and to travel to the camp, I obviously need to do that as I do not have a car.
I tried applying for deferment on medical grounds and it was rejected on the basis of "we will make accomodations for you in the camp". OK, cool...but that doesnt explain how im supposed to travel to the camp in the first place with this injury.
This is driving me crazy. It's like, the pain i'm experiencing doesn't matter to them. I even have a specialist memo with a recommendation to excuse me from travelling and it was rejected. They just keep evading the issue whenever i bring it up.
Edit : I managed to speak to the DY CO and explain my situation in detail. He explained that he didn't know the details of my situation and thought I could leave the house regularly to go to work and stuff, explained the military's policy (apparently it's difficult to excuse someone from training unless they have a valid MC or am immobile) and told me to file an appeal and he would help me bring it up with HR. So here's hoping it works out.
