Cluster Munitions Ejection
Posted on
Can anyone who has worked on/with or just is more knowledgeable about this explain *exactly how* the explosive based ejection mechanism of cluster munitions work? The general gist is obvious, IK, small explosive charge pushes onto a plate that pushes the submunitions out... I want to know exactly how these things are composed, usually the outer casing containing the submunitions is shattered, that's what I don't understand, how are the "shells" designed to break apart from a small explosive charge (small enough not to damage or detonate the SMs) while still being able to resist the stress of firing and flying trough the air at 900m/s? If anyone has any old declassified blueprints that'd be great, I couldn't find any specific info on the conventional platforms myself
