Am I Allowed To Wear My Grandpa's Dog Tag?
Posted on
A few years ago, my grandpa took my family on a trip to the ship he was deployed on which is now anchored and turned into a museum. While we were there, my grandpa gave me his dog tag and said that he wanted me to keep it. For about a year, it was sitting in a case in a drawer collecting dust but eventually I decided to wear it. I don't want to flash it around or anything, but I like to keep it on me as a reminder of my grandpa.
I've been wearing it for the past year and a half-ish without any issue -- except every time I'm shirtless (which is the only time it's visible) my dad tells me off for wearing it saying that I'm not in the military so I shouldn't have the right to wear it.
My dad isn't the son of the grandpa that gave me the dog tag, that's my mom's side. Am I in the wrong for wearing this? I don't mean to be causing any issue with stolen valor or anything like that.
P.S. It was the USS Intrepid for anyone interested
