The Fort Bliss Bone Marrow Guy - The largest donor registry event in DoD history, covering every brigade on Fort Bliss, and how I organized the whole thing in 5 days.

HEY hi.
I am the Fort Bliss Bone marrow guy, in my spare time I organize Bone Marrow registry events at fort Bliss. I'm a 23y/o specialist who has zero understanding of a work life balance and far too much caffeine intake to have a normal heartbeat rhythm. Since Monday of last week I started and completed organizing the largest donor registry drive in DoD history. A drive I am now in the...

This was published around six years ago on this subreddit. I've got older stories, but I was thinking about /u/DittyBopper a while back, how all the animosity and disrespect Vietnam vets endured had somehow evaporated, and we're back to hero-soldiers and hero-sailors again; how it turns out that bothattitudes - vilification as "baby killers" AND dubbing us as "heroes" of some kind - were wrong and...
How I made a Major the victim of my sarcasm

Back in the late 80s, I was a A1C MWD Handler at a SAC base.
Once per shift, a handler and their MWD had to complete an area search outside the alert aircraft area. One night as I was completing this task, there was an emergency with one of the alert aircraft which caused everyone and their brother that needed to be there to come out including this poor sap.
After everything had calmed down and...

So i joined the Danish national guard a second time after some years out of the service and also prior national guard service.
yeah i had some rough years where i dumped everything.
But i got the bug again and signed up.
Got into a bad army unit and switched over to an air force unit, when i happened to move near one.
After a few years i decided i wanted to go the command route, and quickly got...

Many moons ago, I was the platoon leader of a UAS Platoon in the US Army. I know for a fact that my story is not unique, as I have spoken with two other fellow PLs who have related to me very similar stories of woe and intrigue. And isn't that depressing.
During my time as PL, I and my chiefs, were rather keen on providing our operators a more interesting training scenario than flying circles over...

we set out in the flatlands
of a high mountain valley
with the Cummins turbo whinin'
and the cupola around me
Ferrari to the foothills
with the green fields down below
and the blue skies all around us
and the camels on the road
up the dusty trail
scrapin' through the mountain towns
where there's no one out to see us
but the boys who stare us down
on and up we roll
down the mountain...

I worked on fire control systems on A-6 Intruders back in the late 80's and early 90's, and we had sensors and components installed all over the plane. I was a young pup on my first cruise, out on one of my first trouble tickets by myself. This particular component was installed on the vertical stabilizer; to get to it, you'd have to climb the ladder next to the bombardier-navigator and get on top...

I was suggested to repost this story from Malicious Compliance.
This happened back in 1989 when I was in the Navy. When I first checked into my squadron, I was issued a couple pair of coveralls and a pair of flight deck boots. They had special treads to prevent from catching debris like gravel or mud, and had steel toes. Being gubment issued boots, they were relatively low quality and...
WW2 US Military story

I believe in mid WW2 my great grandfather was a Lt. Colonel when this story took place. He was flying from the now Birmingham-Shuttlesworth international airport to the US Army Air Corps base in New Orleans to pick up a US Army Air Corps General when he flew under one of the Mississippi River Bridges at the time. He had found a suitable runway to land on, or in reality a wide road. After he had...

Former Air Force Enlisted Terminal Attack Controller/Tactical Air Control Party here (ETAC in an TACP) and I've posted a few of my assorted tales here & there, but since it's my cake day, and I mentioned this in passing elsewhere....it's a good time to share.
After finding out I was making SSgt I got to go to the field for an exercise and this was pretty much my first time being more than "just"...
