Happy August! Below are the monthly winners for last month.
Before we get into that, /u/BikerJedi was speaking with some admins and as a result of that, /r/MilitaryStories would like to do a charity fundraiser for a worthy cause. The idea is we would have an annual drive for our chosen charity, reddit will match funds up to $20,000, and we can leave a link up for people to donate year-round.
So as part of this thread, let's discuss. It needs to be something with a rating of at least 75 on Charity Navigator. The first thought is a military charity I'm sure for a lot of us. We may also want to consider international charities that work with kids or something. Given our recent AMA with /u/blissbonemarrowguy, maybe a cancer charity. Regardless, we should consider something that is international since we have a lot of folks here from other countries besides America. Sadly, we can only pick one. So throw your thoughts out there! We can have a poll later with the choices or something.
Reminder: New monthly winner awards are Community Award for 1st place, Reddit Gold for second place and Reddit Silver for third place. All three may also have custom user flair if they like. As reddit coins are going away, we will find a new way to recognize winners after September.

Q: How are winners chosen?
A: We look at upvotes, comment history, community awards/reddit awards and throw in a bit of the "arbitrary mods" rule. It isn't completely scientific, but it is close.
