stolen valor, an airport story
Posted on
Some details will be missing as I to protect myself and some others who were involved.
I had a 2 hour plus layover in an airport down south. I am not someone who travels well anyways so I stop at a restaurant in the airport to get something to eat and to suck down a few beers to deal with the flight. I get to a bar and there is a man who is 50ish wearing a digital jungle stripe uniform with a tan beret on his head. While I am a civilian who never served, I spent some time growing up around military brats, so I know what is up. The man was hustling for drinks so he starts coming up towards me and I try to shoo him off but this is where I really notice that his uniform was really off. This is when I notice the EGA (Eagle Globe and Anchor) and an army CIB. I tell the bartender I will be right back to use the restroom and I run into a platoon of guys in army dress uniforms just going thru the airport. I go up to a Sargent and respectfully say that you might want to check out this guy's uniform as it raised some serious red flags with me. Then I noticed the tan berets hanging out of the shoulder epaulets and in some of the pockets. I then took notice of the tabs and the scrolls on their uniforms. One of the other soldiers asked me "what clued you in that something was off?" I responded," he was under, cover with a cover on". I go back to my food and what I saw was something akin to seeing a stealth takedown in a videogame. They knocked the wind out of the guy and basically took him into the bathroom to continue the beatdown. while I had been drinking a bit, but the precision they moved with, was something that had to be seen to be believed.
I just hope the SOB survived. Not because he did not deserve to die but because I really do not want to mess up any careers by me bringing this up to them.
