Red Cross message goes awkwardly wrong
Posted on
While I was deployed with my MP company to Panama prior to Just Cause, I was doing some off day training, whenI received a message from the CQ to beat feet to the Command building and check in with Top. No problem, just curious as to what's up. Head on over and arrive to a huge "Congratulations Daddy!" from Top and the CO, and others in the office.
Being a bit perplexed, Top hands me a Red Cross message which read, "Congratulations! Your Son Zachary was born on this date and time. The Mother's name is Phyllis." See, my sister (Missy) was pregnant at the time, and when my Nephew was born, My Mom, Phyllis, called the Red Cross to send the meesage to me.
Somehow, the Red Cross seriously got the message mixed up, but after an explanation and a good laugh, I got a few beers bought and lifted that night to being a new Uncle! The family still laughs about the day my Mom gave birth to my Nephew!
