It was hot overseas and one day I died more inside than on a typical day.

When I was in the Navy, they'd ride the hard workers and just have them do everything because it was easier on leadership.
My dept painted the sides of the ship. We were on my first deployment. We had pulled into a port and they would have us paint the sides all day in the heat. I'm talking 12-14 hours and they set it up so no one on duty could be given a day watch.
I'm talking rubber on your boots melting on the concrete heat.
They wouldn't give us water or let us leave to get water. We'd be in row boats so it was hard to sneak up to the pier and into the boat. We were covered in paint so hard to keep a bottle. For lunch they'd throw us these pre packaged boxes lunches.
It was a Styrofoam tray wrapped.in cellophane. It contained shortbread cookies, sandwich, and a Capri sun. They were always still frozen.
One day another guy and I were working all the way forward. Theu told us it was quiting time. So we get on the pier and we're walking aft toward the ramp up to the quarterback. We realize we're the only two out there. Everyone else had left.
We're about to drop from the heat and we see it! I cooler of water! We get closer and out of no where - this woman walks up to the cooler, takes the lid off, and basically takes a bath in it. Stick hers hands in it, face in it, is pulling water out and wiping her arms and face down. Then she puts the lid back.on and just walks away.
I almost died right there.
I dumped it out and took the empty cooler with me to muster so it could be returned to storage.
