If you can’t meet the requirements drop it off the ship. A story from my first year in the Russian Navy.

I am stationed as a Russian Naval Infantryman in St. Petersburg area for around 3 years now. When I first enlisted in 2020 I was stationed aboard a larger patrol boat. Every now and then we would have external inspections from higher up in the chain of command to ensure our ships were maintained and properly equipped. One of the rather comical things I noticed was that we had an older boarding plank that was made by the metal workers on the dry dock.
Well since it was not approved we were told by the inspector to remove it as a failure in our inspection. My commander shrugged and ordered me and a few other Privates (I am now Corporal) removed the boarding planks and dumped it into the Baltic Sea. The inspector proud of his work then attempted to jump from the ship into the sea and promptly fell into the Baltic Sea himself. After dragging him back onto the boat and having him recover (cold water) he then told us to order the proper boarding plank and have the metalworkers make a replacement.
3 years later and the replacement has never arrived. The metalworkers boarding plank was probably better anyways.
