So right at the onset of Operation Restore Hope in Somalia, our unit was one of the first ones deployed (USMC).

After spending a night at the Mogadishu airport, we moved into the back of the embassy and started setting up firing holes etc.

Because that area had been abandoned for so long (except for the Somalis using it as a graveyard) there was tons of trash, critters, etc. there.

A couple of us were rinsing off while standing on a large pallet when a big ugly F’ing 4” centipede bit me on the ankle of my right leg.

Within a minute or two, my leg was paralyzed and two buddies had to carry me to the aid station. Doc had nothing to treat it so he said I could either wait to see what happens or head back to my area and wait.

We decided to wait and after watching a red streak move up my leg and then subside I could walk again.

It was fortunately not as bad as it could’ve been, but I was curious what other critters anybody else has been bitten by.
