Always keep your eyes on your lane!

The base I was stationed at had guard towers along the perimeter. Each tower was manned by two guards.
The base also had an operations center with a digital feed of cameras mounted in the base. These cameras had various optics (including night vision) and powerful zoom cameras. The cameras were well inside the perimeter and elevated for a clear view for miles around. And also a clear view of the towers.
One night, the cameras (and thus everyone in operations) saw two guards being less than professional. A male soldier was standing directly behind a female soldier, who was leaning forward over the side of the tower, and the two of them were going hot and heavy!
After being relieved, the male, a sergeant, was pulled into the commander's office and questioned about the incident. He denied it. He apparently wasn't aware he'd not only been on caught on camera but the footage had been saved.
The female, a private, first-class, was questioned separately. She admitted to everything but also claimed that through it all, she kept her eyes on her "lane" (the area in front of the tower the guards are responsible for monitoring).
The SGT was court-martialled. Our CO had no sympathy for anyone who lied to his face. But the PFC was given non-judicial punishment that included a reduction in rank.
She'd been honest, and as she said, she never actually shirked her duty!
