The Ukrainian military received the delivery of Javelin man-portable fire-and-forget anti-tank missiles.

The US Department of State has confirmed delivery of Javelin anti-tank missile systems to Ukraine, a department spokesperson told on Monday. A little later, Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko also has confirmed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have received Javelin anti-tank missile systems from the United States.

According to local experts, Ukraine received the first batch of Javelin anti-tank missiles on April 6. The first batch of missiles was transferred to the training center for servicemen.

The $47 million purchase of Javelins was funded with U.S. military aid funds for the Ukrainian government.

As reported, in early March 2018, the U.S. State Department approved the supply of Javelin anti-tank missile systems to Ukraine. A $47 million U.S. military-aid package specified 210 Javelin antitank missiles and 37 Javelin launchers, two of them spares, for Kyiv. The all missiles will be drawn from U.S. Army stocks, with the CLUs obtained from on-hand Special Defense Acquisition Fund-purchased stocks.

The Defense Security Co-operation Agency (DSCA) also noted that the Javelin system will help Ukraine build its long-term defense capacity to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity in order to meet its national defense requirements. Ukraine will have no difficulty absorbing this system into its armed forces.
