Ukrainian BTR-4M successfully passed tests in tropical conditions in Indonesia. Five Ukrainian combat vehicles were delivered to Indonesia Marine Corps as part of the performance of contract signed in early 2014 between the Ministry of Defence of Indonesia and SE “SpetsTechnoExport”, which is part of the SC “Ukroboronprom”. These vehicles are produced at SE “Kharkiv Morozov Machine Building Design Bureau“, which is part of the Concern.
Performance of the contract took place after delivery of the major consignments of BTR-4 for needs of the Ukrainian army, as part of additional loading of productive capacity of Ukrainian defence complex.
During the tests, in the presence of Ukrainian specialists, amphibian capabilities of armoured vehicles were tested at sea, firing tests were conducted in mountain areas and mobility characteristics of Ukrainian combat vehicles were tested on the road and on rough terrain.
Director of “SpetsTechnoExport” Pavlo Barbul said that tests of Ukrainian vehicles were conducted by committee, which included representatives of various departments of the Ministry of Defence of Indonesia. The implementation of this contract was made possible by effective cooperation of Ukrainian MIC enterprises and the Embassy of Ukraine in Indonesia.
Directly procedure of tests was exhaustively covered by Indonesian correspondent of publication Angkasa Aryo Nugroho, which described in detail all the stages of testing of the Ukrainian armoured vehicles, which took place January 19, 2017.
100 km long march began at night when BTR-4M escort with by own motion along highways departed from the Indonesian capital Jakarta to the coast of the Java Sea. And at dawn armoured vehicles tested their amphibian capabilities at sea.
“Combat vehicles steadily and smoothly act in the water,” – says the Indonesian publication. Noting, that the BTR-4 with wheel arrangement 8×8, are equipped with Deutz engines and Allison transmissions that meet NATO standards. These engines are characterized by their reliability, efficiency and power.
After water tests, BTR-4M escort went to the shooting place. Despite the fact that the road to the shooting place was washed out by heavy rains, Ukrainian combat vehicles successfully passed mobility tests. As the Angkasa publication notes, even a tracked vehicles for towing were specially prepared by the Indonesian military that did not expect such powerful mobility capabilities of BTR-4M.
A canyon was selected as a place of fire tests, which allows to test the capability of the main armament of Ukrainian combat vehicle.
Each of five BTR-4M that took part in the shooting, successfully hit hypothetical targets on specified distances, demonstrating accuracy of Ukrainian weapon. Indonesian journalists were frankly amazed by capabilities of the “Parus” combat module, which is mounted on the BTR-4M, and modern digital sighting complex.
We remind that SE “Spetstechnoexport” featured a new development of Ukrainian engineers on the exhibition “Arms and Security 2016” – tactical unmanned multifunctional complex “Phantom”, which has already proved its combat capabilities in difficult weather conditions.
Also, SE “Spetstechnoexport” in late 2016 featured its new combat module “Taipan”, specifications of which meet the highest Western standards.
