Senegal is upgrading Mil Mi-35P (NATO reporting name: Hind) gunships of the national Armed Forces, according to airrecognition.com.
“Senegal is collaborating with Israeli Controp company. One Senegalese Mi-35P gunship has already received nose-mounted DSP-HD electro-optical system developed by Controp. The DSP-HD system includes a high-definition (HD) day camera, a daylight spotter channel and a laser rangefinder,” the source said.
Previously, Controp issued a press release announcing that the company has received several foreign contracts to upgrade military-transport and combat helicopters with the DSP-HD system. The authors of the document mentioned United Nations Mil Mi-17 (Hip), Bell 407 and Eurocopter EC-145/Airbus H145 transport helicopters, as well as Mil Mi-24 gunships.
The DSP-HD electro-optical system has a weight of 29 kg. In basic configuration, it comprises a thermal imaging device, a Full HD daylight camera, a Full HD daylight spotter and an automatic target tracker. The aforementioned equipment can be complemented by eye-safe laser rangefinder and laser pointer.
