The reconnaissance units of the Russian Airborne Forces to receive a new special military equipment – by the end of April, the new batch of 40 armored vehicles Rys (Lynx) are expected to be delivered.
The Rys (Lynx) is a Russian version of Iveco LMV-M65 vehicles. The Russian LMV developed by Iveco Russia and Oboronservis LLC joint venture company.
Russia contracted for an initial batch of 358 of the vehicles in 2011, but by early 2013 had announced it would end its co-operation with Iveco at that point. Its original deal with the company envisaged the co-production of as many as 1,775 vehicles under a contract worth up to USD1 billion.
All of the assembled vehicles go to one of the Ministry of Defense’s reserve pools, from where some of the vehicles apparently have ended up in Syria. Their offering good protection for crews against roadside land mines – are very much in demand.
Iveco’s M65 Lince has received praise for its performance in Afghanistan, while receiving orders from Italy, Austria, Belgium, Britain, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Norway, Slovakia, and Spain.
