The Italian Air Force has become the first customer to order the P.1HH HammerHead Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), as announced by Piaggio Aerospace on 26 February.

Under the order, Piaggio Aerospace will deliver three P.1HH systems in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) configuration to the Italian Air Force in early 2016. The systems include six air vehicles and three ground control stations.

The P.1HH HammerHead is a multi-purpose UAS designed and developed by Piaggio Aerospace. It is derived from the Piaggio Aerospace P.180 and designed for a variety of operational capabilities. The UAS can be tailored to specific customer requirements, enabling it to perform a wide range of ISR missions.

The system is currently undergoing a comprehensive development and certification flight test campaign.
