General Dynamics unveils LAV-FSV light armoured vehicle at AFED 2018

The military vehicle’s manufacturer General Dynamics Land Systems has unveiled a new 8×8 light armoured vehicle at the AFED 2018 exhibition in Saudi Arabia.
The vehicle, called the LAV-FSV, is being showcased in the combat vehicle configuration and equipped with 3000 series turret from CMI Defence.
The gross vehicle weight (GVW) of the vehicle is quoting 28,100 kg. The LAV-FSV’s powerpack comprises a Caterpillar C13 diesel developing 700 hp coupled to an Allison 2800 automatic transmission.
The hull of a new vehicle has a V type to provide a higher level of protection against mines and improvised explosive devices.
Crew protection is also provided by NBC detection/protection system, automatic fire suppression and multi-spectral smoke grenade launchers. EO/IR systems provide surveillance through 360° direct view optics.

The LAV-FSV is operated by a three-person crew comprising the commander, gunner and driver, also the vehicle can accommodate up to 4 troops. It is armed with the 3000 series turret from CMI Defence with 30mm cannon and 7.62mm coaxial machine gun.
The Cockerill 3000 Series is a single platform enabling a turret to accommodate guns of different calibres and the corresponding technological modules: automatic 25 mm, 30 mm, 30/40 mm, 35 mm and 50 mm calibre guns, along with direct fire guns of 90 and 105 mm calibre. These systems can also fire missiles.

It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia has entered into a 14-year, $10 billion agreement with General Dynamics’ Canadian subsidiary for an undisclosed number of military and civilian armored vehicles.
