Finland in negotiations to aquire used K9 Thunder self-propelled howitzers from South-Korea

The Defence Administration of Finland has initiated intergovernmental negotiations with Korea on procurement of equipment and artillery systems.
The purpose of the contract is to enable the support to the operational troops with artillery equipment that has a long range and good mobility in terrain and on roads. The contract replaces the artillery materiel partially obsolete in the 2020s and 2030’s.
The Armed Forces have sorted out the supply and price in the international market for the new 155 mm automotive and tracked artillery systems. Moreover, the possibility to acquire used 155 mm vehicle or tracked artillery systems in good condition ironed out.
Artillery System K9 Thunder, which can be used by the Korean government, suitable for military training, and with it pursued a performance that is suitable for the Finnish conscript army in a cost effective manner.
K9 Thunder is a tracked 155 mm armored howitzer, which is made in Korea. It has a shooting distance of over 40 kilometers.
The preparation of the case and the procurement negotiations related to it are still in progress, which means that not disclosing the details relating to the contract.
