Chinese crews of modern Type 96B main battle tanks preparing for 2017 “Tank Biathlon”

Chinese crews of modern Type 96B main battle tanks are getting ready for the “Tank Biathlon” International mechanized military sport.
The Chinese team will perform on new Type 96B main battle tanks. Improved road characteristics differ this tank from its predecessor. The crews are training in China’s Northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
A tank biathlon is a mechanized military sport developed by the Russian military with some similarities to the winter sport of biathlon. It utilizes the complex training of tank crews including their rough terrain passing skills combined with the ability to provide accurate and rapid fire while performing maneuvers.
According to the contest, the tank crews will have to demonstrate the skills of driving multi-ton armored vehicles, as well as shooting skills, both standing and moving.
It is worth recalling that in 2016, the Chinese Type-96B battle tank (a new tank in the Type-96 family) just broke down during the “Tank biathlon” competition at Alabino training field in Russia.
