Elbit Systems has been awarded a contract to deliver its mobile satellite communications system, ELSAT 2100 satellite-on-the-move (SOTM), to the Canadian Armed Forces.
Awarded by Rheinmetall Canada, work will be carried out over an 18-month period. Financial details of the contract remain undisclosed.
Elbit Systems Land and C4I Division general manager Yehuda (Udi) Vered said: “The Canadian Armed Forces are technologically advanced and innovative, and I trust that additional customers will follow and select our systems.
“The modern battlefield requires very reliable, high data-rate capabilities to be provided to numerous users simultaneously and in often adverse weather conditions.”
Under the contract, the company will provide a compact, low-profile SOTM antenna system, which provides broadband communication in Ku, X and Ka frequency bands when using military and commercial satellites such as the wideband global SATCOM satellites of the US Department of Defense.
Launched at the Eurosatory 2012 exhibition in Paris, the ELSAT 2100 is an 80cm diameter, low-profile, rugged bi-directional military satellite communications (MILSATCOM) vehicular SOTM antenna.
Based on a new-generation planar antenna technology developed for high performance and efficiency of low profile SOTM antennas, the ELSAT 2100 delivers a six-fold performance improvement over the ELSAT 2000, enabling 50Mbps downlink and 10Mbps uplink speeds.
The system features an advanced triple tracking mechanism based on a combination of Gyro, GPS and receive signal strength indication (RSSI), with a 110° elevation capability for superior SOTM tracking and relocking.
