Belarus to showcase new light armoured vehicles at IDEX 2017

At the upcoming IDEX 2017 international defence exhibition taking place at ADNEC in Abu Dhabi on 19-23 February 2017, Belarusian defense companies will present its new light armoured vehicles.

The 140th Repair Plant to showcase a new modernized version of the Soviet-made wheeled reconnaissance vehicle BRDM-2, under the name of “Caiman”. The Caiman is motorized with a new engine mounted at the rear of the vehicle and uses an independent torsion bar suspension. The vehicle can run at a maximum road speed of 110 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 1,000 km. The vehicle is fully amphibious but the single water-jet of the original BRDM-2 is replaced by two propellers mounted on each side at the rear of the chassis.
The Belarus company Volat will present the new MZKT-490100 Light Armoured Vehicle. The Light Armored Vehicle, MZKT-490100 is a 4×4 vehicle with a gross weight of 11,000 kg and a payload weight of 1,500kg. It was designed as a base product for specialized tactical vehicles development and can be used for all types of roads as an APC, C2, reconnaissance, military police, logistics and ambulance vehicle. It has a maximum speed of 105km/h and a cruising range of 1000km.
The Minotor-Service company to debuted new Vitim family of light armoured vehicles. The new Vitim is a 4×4 and 6×6 multi-purpose amphibious armoured vehicle. According to Minotor-Service, the hull also protects against under blast from F-1 and RGO hand grenades, as well as and against plastic explosives containing the equivalent of 0.5 kg of TNT. An unusual feature of the Vitim is that it can be prepared for amphibious operations in less than 10 minutes, after which it is then propelled in the water by its wheels at a maximum speed of up to 5 km/h.
