The Argentine Armed Forces are now immersed in a process of modernization, that was reported by www.dintel-gid.com.
The Argentine Army has recently incorporated 2 units of the new Cessna “Caravan EX” for utilitarian, parachuting and Special Forces missions, complementing the 2 initial units configured as MEDEVAC.
After incorporating 2 modernized Airbus C-212 lightweight transports, the Army has also completed the evaluation of the Leonardo C-27J “Spartan” average transport, of which it is expected to incorporate up to 4 units.
Simultaneously, either Bell 407GXP or Airbus H-125B3 helicopters are being considered to replace the SA-315 currently in service. The new acquisitions will be destined to fulfill high altitude missions, having Bell already performed tests over the Aconcagua (6,962 meters above sea level) at the request of the Army and the Air Force in conjunction.
Additionally, agreements were signed with Beretta for the production of Px4 Storm pistols for both military and security use, as well as the possible production of the ARX-200 rifle as a replacement for the FAL rifle.
The Argentine Air Force, in addition to plans for the incorporation of new light fighters, has initiated the acquisition of the first two Airbus C-295Ws, of an expected total of 8 units, meant to replace the Fokker F-27 “Friendship” and the F-28 “Fellowship”,
The Argentine Navy is planning to incorporate 2 units of Airbus C-295: 1 unit in transport configuration and the other one in maritime patrol configuration, of a total of, initially, 2 units of each model.
The C-295 will replace the F-28 “Fellowship”, while the MPA will replace the Grumman S-2T “Turbo Tracker”.
