Afghan Air Force receives second batch of Black Hawk helicopters

Afghan Air Force (AAF) has taken delivery of four Sikorsky UH-60A+ Black Hawk helicopters on 23 January.
According to the local source, it is the second batch of Sikorsky UH-60A+ Black Hawk helicopters were delivered to Afghan forces after first four in September last year. The U.S. plans to supply a total of 159 of such helicopters to Afghanistan by 2020 The eventual aim is replacing all of the current Mi-17’s fleet.

The UH-60A+ helicopter is a UH-60A Model with UH-60L engine to tolerate the heat extremes in the desert.

Strengthening the Afghan Air Force is a key part to contain the Taliban insurgency since the NATO-led coalition ended its main combat operations in 2014.
